«Proyecto dispositivo CUBE» es el nombre que recibe esta campaña que busca usuarios reales con conexiones contratadas en su casa y que esten prestos a compartirla. El dispositivo, que se conecta a uno de los puertos de la red local del router , simula la actividad normal que generalmente haría un usuario, como descargar vídeos de YouTube, descargar ficheros o bien navegar por la página web.
Examinando un poco este Proyecto CUBE, donde en las condiciones particulares se menciona a la empresa española Caseonit, la cual ha recibido subvenciones públicas procedentes del Ministerio de Industria para desarrollar MedUX, un «sistema autónomo de medida de la experiencia de usuario y redes en el ámbito de telecomunicaciones, basado en la prevención, detección y solución de anomalías en tiempo real«, descripción que podría coincidir con el sistema que se nutre de los datos que recogen los dispositivos Cube.
Conforme esta información, el dispositivo mide la calidad de la conexión, aunque no «guarda información de dónde navegas ni qué haces en la red, solamente mide las velocidades de carga en todos y cada instante del día».
El proyecto tiene una duración de un periodo mínimo de doce meses a lo largo de los cuales los participantes van a recibir un pago de diez euros mensuales toda vez que lo sostengan en marcha cuando menos un 50% del tiempo. Una vez concluido ese periodose tendrá que devolver el Cube o bien abonar 250 €.
